I have a child and as a brand new driver, safety is what is most important. I love the look of the yaris and have a few friends who have them and love it. The aveo has better safety ratings. 4 stars in the rear over the 3 stars for the yaris. It is cheaper, insurance is cheaper. But from what I read, toyota lasts longer than gm. I also found cheverlot was on the worst car list. I like the honda fit but the ratings were under the aveo as well and a little too expensive for me. Any input would be appreciated. Safety will sway my decesion 100 percent.

  1. The public has an impression that Japanese cars are better, and that was true in the 1980s. But today that's more like an urban legend.  So if you poll 100 people they'll say Japanese are better.  But real data will tell a different story.  It varies by model and brand, of course.  For instance VW Beetle owners just love their cars, but if you look at hard data, they're terribly unreliable.

  2. I would go with the GM vehicle because of the safety ratings and GM now has a 5 year or 100,000 mile warranty alot better than the Toyota warranty.......
