I was pushing a bit too hard – Lewis Hamilton
The 2008 world champion is at it again. Lewis Hamilton crashed in the first practice session in the Japanese grand prix at Suzuka. The question that comes to mind is that why was he driving so violently on a practice season? Lewis should really try to calm
down and realize that he cannot win the championship using his emotions more than his skills.
The British driver admitted that he was “pushing too hard too soon” after his crash at the Friday practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver was only on his second serious run of the day for the morning session when he bottomed out in Degner One and ran wide hitting the barrier at the following Degner. This was his third serious mistake since the past three races and had to
miss over two hours of practice as he damaged his car’s new rear wings beyond repair.
As a result, the 25 year old was over two seconds off the pace by the end of the second session. However, he is hoping that his team can fly out new components over a night to make his car even more competitive. Even though this was a compliment for McLaren,
his team would not be happy with what he did at the Practice session. I think that the team should at least step up to him and ask him to cool down. There is always a limit of everything and Lewis has crossed the line this time. It was because of his silly
mistake that the team was not able to test its upgrades meant for Suzuka. All the hard work went in vain as the car lost its new wings and now the team will have to work on them from scratch.
“I damaged the car in the early laps of the first session. I was only on my second fast lap, and was probably pushing too hard too soon. I did not go that wide. It was not that big an off - but the gravel was very slippery at that point. A couple of other
drivers had moments there and got away with it”, Hamilton said.
Hamilton seemed disappointed but he will have to get over it if he wants to move on to win the race this Sunday. Lewis should try his best to provide his team with the best possible result that he can as he has been disappointing the team since the past
4 races. The British driver retired in 3 out of the past 4 races and lost the championship lead to Mark Webber 3 races ago. However, everyone is aware that McLaren has one of the most efficient engineering team in the Formula 1 so the team should be able to
recover his loss.
“The guys in the garage did an incredible job to rebuild the car - they really had to work hard, and they got me out for the last 10 minutes of the second session. They are so supportive in this team: if one person is down, they'll do their best to lift
that person up. That's what we do as a team”, he added.
He is still optimistic about the race ahead as rain is expected to hit the track this weekend at the qualifying session and race that would change the current statistics vitally.
“I had to run the older rear wing in the afternoon, so I didn't really get a proper feel for where the car is. We'll have a second new rear wing for qualifying and the race. Tomorrow's another day - and it looks like it's going to rain, so everybody will
have to start again”, said Lewis.
Lewis is hoping that this run of bad luck should end after the incidents at Monza, Singapore and the first practice session at Suzuka. McLaren will now have to work extra hard to ensure Lewis a good car for the race this coming Sunday.
