  1. You can make a portfolio of your work (if you have it).  You can also do as someone else suggested and start with classes at a community college.

Every university has a special procedure for "non-traditional" students.  While you're still "college age", you are older than most incoming freshman and have the unique circumstance of no SAT/ACT scores.

I would contact the admissions office of the college(s) you want to attend and find out their policy.  More than likely they have them posted on their website also.  Again, you might want to look under non-traditional student or adult learner.

There's always the online course options, too.

  2. No, not all colleges count on your ACT or SAT scores.

If you are worried about it- take it.

    But no, it's not necessary.

  3. Go talk to a counselor at your local community college they can help you sign up to take the SAT/ACT.

  4. If the school requires an SAT or ACT score for entrance, I would imagine you still have to take the test, it doesn't matter whether you were home schooled or not.  All you would have to do is sign up the same way as if you had been in high school.  You can register online at collegeboard.com and they will tell where it is offered locally and when along with instructions on what to bring and how to get there.  I would recommend just to go ahead and take it now instead of waiting around to find out if the college you want to apply to requires it, because it takes awhile to get your results and stuff and even if the college you are looking into it doesn't require it, you aren't really out anything except the money it costs to register for the test, which isn't a whole lot.

  5. Many state colleges don't require them, but virtually all Universities want to see one or the other.

They cost about $300 each to take and you can take them at a variety of places.

All colleges, however, will make you take a proficency test of Math and English skills.  Some colleges will place you in Math and English coursese based on the results, some will reject you if you don't meet the grade.

  6. So take the ACT. IF you go to the website, www.actstudent.org, you can find out when tests are in your area, sign up for the test, and take it. You don't have to go to school to do it.

The university will still accept you, once you take the test and fill out an application. Good luck

Additional info: The ACT takes $30, for the test and to have the results sent to four colleges. You may pay $8 to have results sent to an additional two colleges, and another $12 maybe, if you want to take the written part.

  7. You can take them now.  There is no age restriction.  I've never heard of an unschooler not believing in the SAT or ACTs, but they aren't necessary unless you do want to go to university.

You can do everything now to get into university.  Find out the admissions requirements for the school you want to attend and make up a transcript of "classes" you've completed, do whatever else you need for admission, and that should do it.

Best of luck to you :D

  8. Yes you can still take the ACT and SAT.  I suggest that you take a ACT/SAT prep course first.

Look on line  for ACT at ACT ( if the schools you are going to give you a choice take the ACT)   and SAT at college board.

  9. You will need to check with the University you want to attend.  Generally, homeschoolers do depend on SAT or ACT scores to get into college, so I think you may need them.

There are options, you could study on your own and take the tests as soon as you feel you are prepared for them.  You could go to Community College for a while and then see if you can transfer to the University, you could also go to Community College AND take the SAT or ACT test when you are prepared for it.  Personally, I think Community College would be a good starting point, it would let you get used to the classroom environment WHILE preparing to take whatever entrance exam you might be asked for.

  10. Hi. I'm 14 and unschooled too. I don't have any precise details for you (sorry!) because I'm guessing you're in the US and I'm not.

However, in my country, you can still go to University without taking any of the standard end-of-school/tertiary entrance exams. Here, they call it "special entry" and it means that some Universities will ask you to take their own entrance tests and others will accept you based on your "life experiences" (volunteer work, part time jobs, sports activities, personal achievements etc).

My 24 yr old brother and 19 yr old sister are both studying at Uni here now despite being unschooled all their lives so, yep, it can definitely be done...in some places at least.

Anyway I was just thinking that maybe you should get in touch with those Uni's you're considering and ask if they can offer you anything similar.

  11. Your best bet might be to attend a community college for your GE requirements, then transfer to a University.  If is cheaper, first of all, and you don't need to worry about SATs and all that.  Talk to a counselor at your local community college.  They are usually very knowledgeable about transfer requirements.
