I was rear-ended by a car

I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer i was stopped at a light. The car behind me a 2002 ford escort smacked into the back of me.. The hit felt like i was in a nascar race. It hurt really bad. My car has very little damage to the body. A tiny dent on the bottom and his license plate is indented into my bumper. Is there any chance there can be damage to my engine or transmission or anything??

Also should i go to the hospital?

I dealt with the police, My insurance company.

  1. Well when did this happen? You could just get checked out by your doctor...obviously you were well enough to make it home and get on Yahoo Answers.

  2. Yes you should go to hospital. Just to be on safe side.  You can also take your car to a mechanic to be checked out...it wont hurt.

  3. You should have your mechanic look it over just to be sure.  You could have bent the frame which could effect some of the things you mentioned.

  4. When you go to get an estimate for the damage, have them check out the engine and everything. I dont know much about cars but if there was damage their insurance would cover it. (of course) And if you have any continuing pain especially around your neck or chest, you should have it checked out, better to be safe than sorry.

  5. you should always go to the hospital if there is any damage to your car...sometimes whip lash wont show up for a little while and you want to make sure you have a record of getting checked out in case anything is wrong with you and you need to get his insurance to pay for it.   i doubt anything is wrong with the transmission or engine. when you get the bumper fixed have them check the back of the car to make sure there is nothing else wrong from the accident.

  6. YEs!

Go to the hospital. YOu may not feel it now but you will in the future. It is all about documentation when it comes to insurance paying out. Also, their insurancfe will inspect your car for damage but get your own inspection done also ad compare notes. You do not want the claim to close out and you still have health issues and car issues.

  7. I was rear-ended a few years ago in a similar manner, although my car was totaled because of the frame damage.  Your insurance company (or the other driver's if he was at fault and has insurance) should send out an adjuster to check over your car and make sure any damage is repaired.  As for going to the hospital, if it's an all-over, sore kind of feeling, it is probably just that.  I was sore for several days, but there were no underlying problems, just some bruises and sore muscles from getting tossed around.  If it doesn't get better after a few days, or if it gets worse, go to a doctor.  I think the insurance should still cover it, if the doctor says it was related to the wreck.

  8. There's always a chance things shift around in accidents. Especially if it was as high impact as you felt. Unfortunately some problems take a little while to show up. I was rear ended, similar situation, and didn't realize how it really shook things loose. Just keep an eye on things. Hopefully, your insurance company will take note incase problems surface later on.

I got whiplash from my accident, and I didn't notice it until the next day or day after. Just rest up. If you feel like somethings wrong, you should at least go get checked out by your doctor. Maybe covered by insurance?

Good luck, and hope all gets better soon!

  9. Your insurance adjuster will have the vehicle checked out for you so dont worry.

  10. sounds like it was pretty minor to compare it to a nascar race. ever notice how people make things sound a lot worse than they are;

  11. you should've gone when the cops were there : / if you are in pain then definitly go if you were rear ended your tranny and engine should be fine. :) good luck! i hope you feel better! accidents are always scary :(

  12. The impact could have put the car slightly out of alignment and/or jolted the electrical system. Even though your vehicle is running it may have problems later if it's not inspected for potential damage.

You may feel more pain in a day or two so best to get an xray and other tests at the hospital.

  13. The other's person's insurance should do a full assessment of the damage to your car.

If you are still hurting after a day or too, definitely see a doctor about it.

  14. if there was no direct hit to the front of the car, it should be fine. if you're in any sort of pain, you should go to the doctors! best wishes

  15. My suggestion is trying to get as much resource as you can before making final decision, here is a good one.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  16. Really, you should have gone to the hospital when it happened, it was your best chance to get paid. I tapped a black lady at a light one time. She jumped out and shouted, "You never know when you're gonna hit the lottery, do ya." She danced around for a bit, then settled down. There was no damage to either vehicle, but she insisted on a trip to the hospital. She got paid when she sued my insurance company.

  17. yes yes and yes!

  18. ur engine should b fine a lot of cars come wiv a safety switch that if u get areal smack the engine cuts out 4 its own safety if your worried about yourself then i would get  yourself checked out

  19. You should go see a doctor and probably a chiropractor. You should also take your vehicle to a body repair place so they can make sure that the frame of the car is not bent.

  20. Probably not, if you have a bit of money take it to a mechanic and give them a couple bucks to take a look.

Your car is a front wheel drive, so the critical engine parts are all kept up front by the engine, your rear axle is separate from the rest of the components.

As for the hospital... it sounds like you have a little whiplash which will take care of itself. If it's really bad then go to the hospital but if you can handle it wait a few days and i bet you'll feel better.
