So I was driving down 80 when another car rear ended me while going approximately 100 miles per hour. The other car then lost control and ran into the concrete barrier. The driver of the other car was seriously injured. The police showed up and wouldn't let me leave my car area. I couldn't get names or numbers of witnesses, or any information off the family that hit me. They told me I didn't need to because, "it was obvious what happened here." They did leave me with a paper that requests a Jersey State Police Accident report. I filled it out and sent it in, but two weeks later I still have nothing. The car is in okay shape, except the bumper is next to falling off and I would like to get that fixed, and the insurance agency needs to pay for it. I just need to know where to go from here. The police told me not to call. Any ideas?

  1. My suggestion is trying to get as much resource as you can before making final decision, here is a good one.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  2. Call the State Police Barracks that covers the area where the accident took place. Get a status on your request, ask when should I expect a report.

If you haven't already, get your insurance company up to speed. If you have reported this to your insurance already, call them:

    -  Ask what they can do help you get the police report.

    -  Ask what they can do to begin the repairs.

  3. I don't see anything on their website about accident reports so I'd say you should call.  I'm sure they meant for you not to call for the report - that you had to fill out the form to request the report.

    Here's their webpage for contact:

    Good luck.

  4. I don't understand cops sometimes.

If you have full coverage on your car, then go ahead and submit a claim with your insurance co.

They will fix it (minus your deductible) and subrogate (collect) against the insurance co. of the other driver to get their $$ back and your deductible back.

If you don't want to do that,or only have liability insurance, then you just have to wait for the pol report to come out and get all the other drivers info off of that.
