I was rear-ended while stopped at a red light, why do I have to give the other person my insurance info?

  1. Because if you are on the road you also must have insurance and you exchange it when a wreck happens. Their company will contact yours. You did call the police didn't you?


  2. well i don't know about TX but  here in my state you don't, they should be giving you their ins. info because its their fault and you should be contacting their ins. company and making a clam for damages.  

  3. so they can contact your insurance company to pay for the damages.

  4. Because when you are in an accident you exchange information with the other party.  Then you contact your insurance and tell them what happened and give them the information you collected.

    Documentation is required in car accidents

    Only the police can give that

    The other person may tell their insurance company... you hit them

    Witnesses are hard to find

    Both parties always exchange info

    i do not know the laws in Texas

    But where I live" there is no fault insurance"

  6. its not only so the other insurance company knows you have insurance but a lot of times yours and his company will settle the claim without you having to do anything but get estimates.
