I was engaged on July 24, 2008 to the best man ever. We need help choosing a date. We want it outside. We live in Maine. We are both from the country and he says sure to whatever. We kinda decided on May 20, 2009 but I'd drive myself with planning until then. Then my mom suggested November 15, 2008. But he wants us to go somewhere really nice for a honeymoon.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

  1. Being a wedding planner in Maine I can tell you May is dangerous if you want an outdoor wedding due to tempurature and rain.  If you want a beautiful outdoor wedding in Maine, end of July through mid Septmeber are beautiful!  Depending on where you want to go for a honeymoon, you can go somewhere nice anytime of the year.  I just had a couple marry yesterday outdoor wedding, nice breeze, beautiful blue sky.  It depends on budget and what you want to do with it.  Some people consider and elaborate resort in the islands a beautiful honeymoon, others consider renting a cottage down the Cape or going to the Poconos.  You can not do an outdoor wedding in November in Maine and depending on where you want to go on a honeymoon beware hurricane season.

  2. what can you afford?  are you planning a small or big wedding?  how many people?  do you like a certain season?  what about certain locations, food, photography, videography, flowers, music?  what about the honeymoon?  where would you like go?  what about enlisting a wedding planner to help you?  they are professionals in the business and can help you out if you don't want all the stress of doing a wedding yourself.

  3. Hey...i just wanted to let you know i am crazy about fall weddings, maybe a nice fall day in late october. You could do it inside or outside, just picture a nice crisp day when the leaves are changing colors and the sun is setting...its gorgeous. Also you have a lot of choices for fall colors, you could do light colors or dark colors. Then itll be cold enough that when you go away on your honeymoon youll be escaping the cold to a nice warm getaway :) Congratulations, i wish you all the best!

  4. If you're wanting to go someplace really nice for you honeymoon, think about tourists seasons.  Mid-fall tends to be a lull time for almost any tourist hotspot.  You're more likely to find great travel deals.

  5. May 20th sounds fine to me. It will give you more time to plan the wedding, and it will be nicer outside in May than in November. It's even chilly in FL in the winter. You will have more honeymoon options too. If one of you is born in spring or early summer, make that the day. I did, so he couldn't forget it.

  6. You want an outdoor wedding?  May 20, 2009 sounds good to me.

That is ten months . . . a good amount of time for planning a wedding.

  7. tommorow...it would be a surprise

  8. If you are relying on random people to do your wedding planning for you, I imagine that this relationship will not last very long...

  9. Is there a special day for you guys that you can go with? If you live in Main it might be cold in November so outside might be a tad uncomforatable.

It is a big day and planning the special day will make it worth while to where you are completely happy.

The day will be here before you know it!

  10. You're right to do it in spring if you want to go somewhere nice for your honeymoon. You should do May 15, 2009. It is a lucky day and you can go to a beach for your honeymoon and it will be the right season. It also won't be too hot yet, since you live in Maine.

  11. how about 09/09/09

  12. Hi and congratulations on your recent engagement!

Here is what I think you should do.  Plan things in reverse.  What does that mean?

Well, you don't say what "a really nice honeymoon" is to you and your fiance.  Does that mean going somewhere exotic?  Going on a cruise?  Going skiing?  Going to a foreign country?  You and your fiance should decide EXACTLY where you want this nice honeymoon to be.  Then research travel costs to achieve your goal (i.e., how much is this nice honeymoon going to cost...and don't forget spending money).  THEN plan out how long it will take to save for that honeymoon.  THEN plan your wedding date!!

    That's my two-cents!!!

I do think either November (if you don't want a long engagement) or May would be nice.  But, again, decide how much you can put away each week/month for your honeymoon and then go from there!

    Good luck with your decision.

  13. the date would be your choice.alaska and hawaii are still beautiful in winter.and summer.you dont meed a passport for hawaii but you may for an alaskan cruise if you want to take one of the tours that go through canada.weddings can consume you there is so much details to work out but you have to decide the date.make sure thats great and set in stone and till then you can work on party favors, guest lists, saving for the honeymoon, getting passports or whatever you decide on and start saving for that.last minute or the month before things can be a print shop printing up ribbons with your names and the wedding date on it or matchbooks. you have time to go on line and see what things strike your fancy and try making it yourself.they have invitation cds that you can insert into your computer and you can one week at a time or one paycheck at a time buy the card stock and envelopes and pay that lawaway off. then get the silk flowers another layaway.then get the cake cutter and guest book another time.  by the time its the wedding all the expense will be paid for pretty much and  search for the bakery and prices etc. start planning now will save you alot of stress later.centerpieces for your tables can be silk flowers.put them on layaway somewhere and paay them off a few weeks at a time.i also saw this cool thing on tv, little clear vases that are round.people had a single rose cut at the base and floating in the water. i do not know if silk would work with that.but place cards for seating arrangements, all that stuff can be purchased way ahead of time and you print them once you know who rsvp'd. congratulations. and look on line for stuff. stuff to buy or stuff to make yourself will save you lots of money

  14. both dates sound fine, but what does the date have to do with going on a nice honeymoon.  you can still go someplace really nice in November, or if you are set on a summer honeymoon, you can always postpone it and save up more money for it.

  15. do you know when your first date was? or some VERY romantic date you had togetherr??? i think that it would be nice to commemorate somthing special like that. also if you want it outside then pic a warmer month... my friend planned an october wedding outside because she didn't want to wait that long and it snowed and everyone was miserable... plus if you need more time to save up then do it. because if you don't have enough then you can't go to the place you REALLY want and you should be able to... because you just got married, and it was the happiest day of your life(minus maybe the birth of your children-tell them that, it makes them happy)

ps. to everyone who judges stay out of it she just wants tips, and help and ideas that she hasn't heard before

  16. dont go with 9/9/09 cuz upside down its 3 sixes :x
