I passed a pub on the A62 Manchester Road called 's**t Inn' with a sign showing a black & white Border Collie. What is the history . I'm just curious

  1. Apparently years ago the original landlord had a dog called Smutt.

Upto a few years ago the pub had been in the same family for nearly 200 years.

Whilst you were on the A62 about 1 mile further south there was a pub called "Help the poor struggler" a very apt name as the hangman Albert Pierpoint was the landlodr there.

  2. never mind. i supose someone has to go to manchester[wrong side of the pennines-try yorkshire in future]

  3. I don't normally answer questions that I cannot answer if you see what I mean but I made an exception here. I know the pub and live a couple of miles away, your question intrigued me and I have tried to find something out on the web to no avail. I did find the history accidentally of one which had puzzled me in Prestwich however. Now I am going to have to go for a pint tom morrow and you can guess where I am going. If I find anything I will edit and add it.

Edit .This is getting ridiculous, even the landlord does not know
