I was seen by the Univ. of Penn hospital last July and they asked me to pay up front even though I had a referral from my insurance company to go there. I paid 600.00 and they said that I would have to go through my insurance company to be reimbursed. For eight months I have been going back & forth with the hospital and my insurance company to get this money back and finally the hospital cut me a check for 600.00 a week and a half ago. Today I received another check for the same amount. Do I just call them or is this some kind of repayment for the eight months of waiting?

  1. Yeah, you need to call them and tell them because unfortunately they don't pay us for having to wait on them.

  2. they double paid you for the same visit...OR you may have another bill coming you dont know about.  If the latter isn't the case, you got paid twice by accident.  Return the money, they'll find out eventually and make you pay it back.

  3. You've already cashed or deposited the first check that came, so if you keep the second one that some dodo-brain in their accounting department issued by mistake, you will most certainly have to pay it back. Do the right thing - call them up and say, nicely, "Tee Hee Hee, you made ANOTHER MISTAKE. YOU PAID ME TWICE!"

No, I'm kidding, don't say that, but do call them and tell them you have the second check and would they like for you to return it to them?!?!?

And a big DUUUH to the insurance company.
