  1. What my hubby did is stop all carbs, bread, tortillas, and all sweets, he works out every morning for 1hr before he goes he raps his stomach in serran wrap and put a heavy sweater on, he has lost 5lbs in two weeks but u have to really WANT IT!!!!!

  2. Eat a lot less and work out like h**l.  Chagning your eating is the most important.  Try to only eat fruits, vegitable and bread.  If its cooked - tis bad for you.

It will take a lot of self discipline but you can do it.

  3. diet diet diet, limited you callorie intake, and do lots of running, forgot about workout, just focus running and control your die.  Low Carb die work the best.

  4. Eight pounds in a month is a very achievable goal.  So, don't get your hopes down.

I will provide some suggestions and some websites for you to check out, but first, you probably should consult a doctor before beginning any weight loss program.  That being said, let's start with the science of weight loss.

In order to lose 1 lb of fat, you have to burn 1000 calories.  So, for a person that wants to lose 8lbs they would have to burn 8000 calories to lose 8 lbs.  Relatively simple right.

However, our bodies need caloric energy in order to just function, most people burn about 2000 calories a day just going to work or school.  So, you can't just stop eating, or you will do your body real harm.  Our bodies are also hardwired to like fatty foods and to store excess food as fat.  It is a holdover from when we were cavemen.  If you, as a caveman, failed to kill that mammoth, you would go hungry.  However, when we did get that mammoth, we ate until we were fat and happy and our bodies stored some of it as fat for the next time we missed the mammoth.

In today's age of excess, this propensity to store fat is what gets us into trouble.  And skipping meals or going on those so-called starvation diets only reinforces this fat storing mechanism so we end up actually storing more fat to compensate for our lack of eating.

So, what you need to do is create a caloric deficit of about 500 to 600 calories a day.  You can accomplish that through simple lifestyle choices.  Instead of eating that burger, eat a salad with lite dressing.

By reducing your caloric and fat intake by about 300 calories a day, eating only 1700 calories instead of 2000 calories you are already half way to the goal.

The other half of the caloric reduction can be accomplished through light exercise and walking.  For someone like you, 186lbs, walking for about 60 minutes, at a leisurely pace of just 2 mph will burn 236 calories.  If you stick to your diet and exercise program you will have created a caloric deficit of 536 calories a day.

Do that everyday of the week, and you will have burned an additional 3700 calories that week.  You will have burned 3.7 lbs of fat.  Do that for all four weeks and you can drop upwards of 14 lbs by the time you return to the MEPS station.

Counting calories isn't as tough as it seems.  I have been using a nutrition tracker at http://www.freetrainers.com to help me track how much I am eating and I have found that I am capable of eating about 1700 calories in a day and not feel hungry at all.  Instead of eating 3 big meals, I eat about 5 meals a day.  They are a little smaller, but I still enjoy baked potatoes with butter, steak, corn and bread.

The website will also help you develop an exercise program too.

  5. Your recruiter should have given you some guidelines.

Basically do like aimwalk said, plus do any aerobic exercise you can (this will help you get in shape for basic)

The key to loosing weight is to increase your caloric output while minimizing your caloric intake.

If you get to basic, and you make weight, but are still pudgy and/or you are not in the best of physical fitness, you will probably go to a FTU or Fitness Training Unit.  You will get extra PT and limited rations in order to decrease your weight and to tone up your body.

I salute you for your determination.  I think with your attitude, you will make a fine soldier.  Thank you for your service to your country.  Welcome to the small pecentage that lets the rest of the country be free!

  6. Eat healthy, as in no soda, candy or other sweets.  Stick to fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products, whole wheat bread and pasta and lean meats.  Exercise like crazy.  Drink lots of water, and make sure you get enough sleep at night.  Good Luck!

  7. anorexia its the only way to for sure lose 8 lbs. I think the army will sign a waiver if you are within 5 lbs.

  8. Substitute foods you already eat for the "light" version.. (light bread, spray butter, ect..)

    Drink water, and only water..

You'll lose far more than just 8lbs in a month..

  9. If you can't jog 2miles nonstop, you'll die anyway.

Drink water, only water or flavored water, eat several small meals throughout the day and exercise in the evening or morning ... do not eat within 3hrs of going to bed.

Just jogging, running 2-5miles a day will be enough if you do this.

  10. Drink tons of water everyday, lay off sweets and fried food, exercise a little every day and do not eat after 7:00 pm. These are very simple things that will make a ton of difference. and EXERCISE!!!

  11. dont listen to robert, yes drink lots of water and do some jogging.eat right and you will be just fine.
