I was scammed by an eBay user from the UK

Question

I used MoneyGram to transfer $3,000 to someone in the UK for a laptop I bought. But I never got my laptop! PayPal wont help me because I used MoneyGram. They told me to file a police report but the person is in the UK. I have his Yahoo Email address, his eBay ID and the MoneyGram reciept. Can the police actually do something to someone over to the UK??

chances are you will never see your money again. Most of these are nigerian scams, not the UK. this person probably has a drop point in the UK.

filing a police report really is all you can do, but it won't help since its international. The police and the Federal police are looking into these things, but Nigeria won't cooperate, so it won;t be any time soon that this types of scams will stop.

eBay itself has an arbitration contact/order help service.  

Try the report a problem link.   They can't refund but they may help facilitate tracking the guy down.

You should first report him to ebay!  There is no harm in contacting the police department and seeing if there is anything they can do to help you.

yeah but the law is weak here he wont get any jail time

NEVER send money through a moneygram it is 9 time out of 10 a scam try the police but i doubt they will be able to anything sorry

Try calling your local police department non-emergency line and ask what you can do since I'm not sure what they can do as far as the UK goes.

Make sure to have all the information ready and an address of the seller if you have it.

See if you can cancel the transaction done through MoneyGram due to fruad.

A thing similar happened to me i bought a mp4 player from someone on ebay and the mp4 players doesnt even work
