  1. what you need to do is fill out the questionnaire, send it back, and explain that you are living away at college. the jury office makes exceptions for people like yourself, but you ARE expected to return the questionnaire, respond....otherwise they might come looking for you.

  2. You need to IMMEDIATELY answer the questionnaire, noting that you are not currently in residence, attending school elsewhere, and send it via certified mail. Then don't worry about it. These days, there is so much bailing out on jury duty, that the courts are getting rough on folks that pay no attention, so cover your bases on it.

  3. If you're smart enough to go to college then you're smart enough to find this out without askin' this bunch of yahoos here, most of which don't know a jury pool from a gene pool (which is what they mostly swim in the shallow end of).

And if you're not smart enough, well, then you are just what they're looking for in a juror, so go home and do your duty.

  4. No, because you are not a resident anymore.  The only way that you would have to do it, is if you can't prove you're in school. Call the court and let them know.

  5. Being away at school is generally a valid excuse to get out of jury duty.  Simply fill out the questionaire and send it back.  Jury pools are taken from voter registration and you just happened to be one of those literally pulled from a random pile.  Be sure to return the questionaire and perhaps include a note about you being away and in school.  That way you should be legally excused and you avoid misunderstandings down the road.

  6. Unlike what the one answerer said, just because you are temporarily away does not mean you are automatically excused from jury duty.

Like what the other answerer said, you do need to fill out the form.  BUT, you cannot then just ignore it.  It is a legal summons.  While some people in some places do get by with ignoring it, courts are now cracking down on that.

Instead, follow up by calling the court administrator and make sure you get excused (which you probably will).  Failing to do that may result in a finding of contempt of court and possibly a short stint in jail.

  7. Attending school is a valid excuse to be absent from jury duty.  Inform the court in advance that you cannot come and cite the reason for your absence.
