who also owns horses and they give their horses this thing off a tree which looks a bit like an acorn, but is mushy on the inside. I can't remember what it is called, but it is meant to be rich in Biotin?

If you know what this is please tell me, thanks! =]

  1. Ohh.. I think I seen that in a horse magazine.. I'll go look...

Edit: Found it! Could it be called a Kombo nut (wild nutmeg)

It grows in a tree and it says that its high in Biotin and good for joint health. The picture shows that it has a greenish shell and the inside is a chestnut color.

I think you could be mistaken about the acorn... The one I mentioned above looks more like a walnut or hickory nut.

  2. BB - the Midlands ( UK) is where I am and I have no idea what these things may be but I'll definitely be watching this for the answer.

I know there are all sorts of nut-like things growing on the tracks at the moment but If couldn't identify it I wouldn't let my guys eat it.

  3. hi yes certain nuts are good sources of biotin but i don't know which  but you musnt feed your horse acorns because they contain tanning in them and if the horse eats enough it can poison him

    i know from experience!!!!

  4. Nuts are an excellent and rich source of biotin.  I wish you had a photo of the type of nut you are talking about.

I don't know where the midlands are.  I know there are different 'types' of acorns.  Maybe it still is an acorn...just a different 'type'

An acorn of any type will have a 'cap' on the shell...from what I'm reading on the net.

    interesting.....

If it is acorns...read this site about possible dangers of a horse gorging themselves on them...it can be a real problem for some horses...http://horsedoc_org.tripod.com/acorn_pro...

**EDIT...thanks Debi...I'm curious about what this might be...even though I will NEVER see it...if it only grows over there!  I agree too...if I don't know what something is...or does...I don't feed  it!!

  5. It depend on where you live, and what kind of vegetation they have in that area.

  6. Ive no idea what it is but Im looking forward to reading the answers!!
