1. I'm a 19 year old college student who doesn't even live in the same county that I was summoned to appear in court in anymore. I live in an apartment near my college and the letter was sent to my parents' house.

2. I will be in Canada on a trip the date I have to appear.

3. I know the person who is on trial. He is the same age as me and we have mutual friends.

Which excuse should I call the court with? They are all legitimate.

  1. #3 definitely.  I have no doubt he'll excuse you from serving as a juror to this trial.

  2. How do you know what case you will get in advance?. I maybe wrong, but you sound full of it.

  3. Didn't you ask this question last month?

  4. All reasons are very good reasons to NOT have to appear for court.  Especially your third reason.  If summoned, they will have many potential jurors who they will ask questions to and they will have them be reviewed by the defense/prosecution.  If your relation with the person could influence your decision, they will NOT allow you to participate in the jury.  Call the court and explain to them that.

  5. My daughter was called for duty in our home county when she was living 200 km outside the county. A call to the number they gave her, explaining that she was living so far away got her an immediate exemption.

Juries are often selected and serve for any case they are accepted for... by the lawyers involved.  The process of lining up prospective jurors is only rarely related to a single case unless one is in a county that rarely has a jury trial.

  6. All Three Are The Best Possible Reason Especially Cause you Know The Person

  7. Best thing to do is call them , tell them what you said here.  With the amount of people they summons to appear for that same date for that same jury duty,  I doubt they will try to make you come, they have plenty of other people besides you that they are going to chose from anyway, and you probably would not be picked anyway, most like older people on a jury, mainly over 21.

  8. Excuse #3  is probably the best.

  9. not being in the county is all you need, the personal relationship will only transfer you to another case, they don't give a dam about your trip

  10. bring them all up

  11. #1 might get you out of it

#2 might get you an extension

#3 shouldn't work because at this point you wouldn't even know what the case is about

  12. Tell the judge you know, or know of the person on trial.

  13. the third reason i went to jury duty the lawyers asked me questions i said i thought i knew the guy from school and didnt like him personlly so voila im out
