I was surprised Luke Ronchi wasn't selected in the OD squad for Australia...?

He batted pretty well, and was an excellent wicket-keeper.

Your thoughts please.

  1. They have not taken 3 of the outstanding ODI players in form now - Matthew Hayden, Brett Lee and Shane Watson. They brought in a new player Geeves.

There is no point in having established players against Bangladesh, the weakest team. Hence, it is good to have lot of youngsters get into the team.

If Luke has to come in, he has to replace Haddin. At the moment, Luke appears to be a better keeper than Haddin. In the last 4 matches, Luke had 7 catches in 4 matches against Haddin's 6 in 9 matches. But Haddin is a better batsman than Luke. In the last 9 matches, Haddin scored 288 runs in 7 innings where as Luke had scored 76 runs in 2 innings of 4 matches.

I feel that Australia can give chances alternately to these 2 players and see who is the best over a long period of time. One thing is certain - that neither of them can replace Adam Gilchrist.

  2. I wasn't really surprised he didn't play.

Ronchi is an excellent keeper and a good batsman but he was only a temporary replacement for Haddin who was out injured. Haddin is just as good (even though he got a low score in the match) and doesn't deserve to be dropped at this moment in time. He's being allowed the time to see what he can do within the team and now he's not injured any more the selectors are showing their faith in him by letting him play again. Australia don't chop and change their team too often (unless they go missing on fishing trips lol) so he'll be afforded the time to cement the role. If he doesn't then I'm sure Ronchi will be given more oppertunities.

  3. No surprise really. If anything happened to Haddin, Ronchi is only a couple of hours away by plane.

Beware: we don't need to cheat, if you look at the betting scandals India and South Africa featured quite strongly.

  4. Brad Haddin is by far the better of the two, so no need or place for Ronchi in the side

  5. Brad Haddin has been groomed for the job for a long time... It was the same with Gilly before he took over the gloves..... If you are to be able to make the most of a players potential straight away Cricket Australia and the board of selectors must and have been doing for a long time  spot the up and coming players and then work hard to make sure we can stay as the number one team in the world... Selection isnt on a one game basis it is made over time.... Ronchi will get his chance aslong as he can keep proving that he has what it takes and yes maybe it will only be when Haddin is out, but to stay at the top you need your best 11 on the field..

  6. ya, why not

i mean after the current guys and shane watson he is the next best thing.

They waste their time with david hussey, who is overrataed to me.

i also believe hopes is not nexcesary over shane watson, that is rediculous

They should play him as a batting specialist at #3

  7. Why were you surprised?..

Ronchi is our stand in keeper.Brad Haddin has had the keepers spot ever since Gilly retired.

The only reason Ronchi played as keeper in West Indies was because Brad Haddin broke his finger and had to come back home for treatment..

Ronchi showed talent in the Windies with the bat and as keeper, but Haddin is keeper,Ronchi may get a call up as batsman in 20/20 but unless Haddin is injured i can't see Ronchi given a spot in the team, just yet..

  8. he is not so much matured and there are many other good players.
