Jupp Heynckes revealed that he was shocked at Christian Nerlinger’s dismissal.
Christian Nerlinger was the first one to be relieved off his duties after another trophy-less campaign for the Bavarian giants. Bayern Munich’s trigger happy President Uli Hoeness revealed, that he was locked in a series of discussions
with the club’s board of supervisors and directors.
Following the discussions, the club announced that Sporting Director Christian Nerlinger will be leaving his post. Bayern’s supremo revealed the former Bayern midfielder was sacked after a difference of opinion regarding the club’s
future policy.
Matthias Sammer, the former DFB eleven Technical Director and Stuttgart manager, was lined-up to replace him as the sporting director.
The Bavarian giants were runners-up in three competitions last season; they were beaten to the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal by Borussia Dortmund.
The most disappointing of these three defeats came in the 2012 UEFA Champions league final at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. Jupp Heynckes’ side were all but on their way to lifting the trophy after going ahead through a Thomas Muller goal.
The West London side came back from behind and won the tie on penalties.
The Bayern manager claims he was not consulted by the board when they were pondering on their decision to sack the Nerlinger.
The 67-year old revealed that Nerlinger came across as a rather shy person to him, and he was not the type to complicate situations. He also insisted that the 39-year old director was a good colleague to work with but fans had
a different view of him, they did not like him.
"That was the board's decision. I spent a year with Christian Nerlinger in confidence. He is very shy, and his statements are balanced. He is not one to polarise situations, and therefore, every now and then, normal fans do not
like him,” the former Borussia Monchengladbach coach is quoted as saying.
Heynckes believes that instead of questioning him and his team, the President decided to make Nerlinger the scapegoat after Bayern’s trophyless campaign.
"The fact that we did not achieve our goals lies first and foremost with the team, and then it goes to the general manager," he added.
The new Sporting Director Matthias Sammer is known to be a performance oriented person, and his approach will not go down well with the manager.
