  1. Ecuador is a safe country, the people are nice, and the food is great -- lots of rice and beef. It is westernized, so you will find burgers, sandwiches, pizza. There are McDonalds and KFC there.

If you are going to be in and around Quito, the weather is actually very pleasant. Since it is close to the equator, you won't get extreme weather, but it can be somewhat unpredictable. There will be downpours and then suddenly clear up. It could be sunny and warm in the morning, and a few hours later, raining cats and dogs.

You should realize that Ecuador is a poor country, and the standard of living is nowhere near how it is in the USA. Sure, there are areas that are nice and clean, but the majority of the people are poor. Traffic is a mess in Quito, and the roads are poorly maintained. Don't be surprised if you get stuck in the middle of some social or political protests. These are not violent, and they just disrupt traffic and access.

There are some quaint and beautiful little towns outside of Quito, and they are really worth visiting. It is like traveling back into time. Also, the air is very clean and fresh.

I was there last December. I had an interesting time, but I was glad to be back home. Is it worth a visit? Probably not. But if you want to satisfy your curiosity, there is only one way to do it. Go.

  2. do you plan a career in the drug business? What US company wants what you are going to learn there? Would you be better off selecting a US company that has a product that has a demand in the US. They may produce thingamabobs there, but have no US market. If I wanted you after the internship I would figure that I was going to start out with a person that has very little concept as to what we are doing, and hire you for less than if you did a internship here. Is the internship in the import export business? This could make a difference.

Edit note; I have lived overseas many times and I have never worried about my safety, just this week we had people killed by a 18 y.o. in Utah, maybe it isn't safe here
