  1. I don't hate goldendoodles but most breeders breed not only ugly dogs of both breeds but they also have very faulty temperaments. Also their coat is very unpredictable, so if you're looking for an "allergen free" dog, this isn't the dog for you.

There are some goldendoodles at our shelter right now because the owner was allergic to them. They are really a lost cause, they have bad hip problems and are extremely fearful, i've never seen dogs as fearful as they were. These dogs have NEVER been abused, they are just extremely fearful dogs, and will never become "normal", they will always act spooky. Shame on those breeders!

With this being said, I strongly recommend finding another dog. As the demand of these dogs increases, more bybs are going to take advantage of it. Do a little more research about this so called "breed". If you really want one, look at shelters, as i would never pay 1-2k for a dog with no health testing and no temperament evaluation (cgc).

  2. Congrats on Adopting. I was with my friends Goldendoodle. He was in the pickup box and his front feet were on the top of the box and he looked down at me, he looked really huge. You should get one there great dogs.

  3. Why not get either a Standard Poodle or a Golden Retriever?  It seems silly to pay so much for a mixed breed dog.  Golden Doodles need to be groomed every 6 weeks just like big poodles do.  Figure on paying $80 to $100 every six weeks (more if you let the hair get matted) for professional grooming.  The groomer can't do it all.  You'll need to spend about an hour every day, brushing every hair on the dog's body.  If you don't, you'll have to pay extra for someone to brush out all of the tangles (which will hurt the dog) IF it is possible, or have the dog shaved down which looks ugly.  On top of this, you have a combination of two very active hunting breeds that needs a Lot of exercise.  The Golden Doodle, like its Poodle and Golden retriever parents, is a smart dog which needs to have its mind as well as its body kept busy.  You'll need to train this dog and keep at it, adding new lessons and building onto the old ones, to keep the dog interested.  Basically, what you get is something like a Poodle the size of a Golden retriever.  If you think you can keep up with all of the dog's needs and don't mind the criticism of buying a Fad Dog and grossly overpaying for a mixed breed, then go for it.

  4. The so-called "Golden doodle" is nothing more than a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle which has been given a silly name to make it appear to be a legitimate breed. It can therefore inherit all or none of the characteristics of a Golden Retriever or a Poodle. It may shed like crazy - but it may not.

Since both breeds have the same inherited problems, you would need to find a breeder who has hip-scored both parents and had all the numerous eye tests for the inherited eye problems of both breeds.

  5. they can be a good family pet, good if you live by urself etc  if you take care of them properly.

  6. they are a mixed breed and unless adopted from your shelter you are supporting a puppy mill or BYB there is no information to give other than look at both breeds.

Mixed breeds are absolutely randomized between each breed and so anything anything tells you would be different with your dog. BTW ALL dogs shed there are low shed dogs but no such thing as NO shed dogs.

Remember no responsible breeder breeds mutts, either rescue or don't do it at all

  7. They are mixed breeds, and like any other mix, their personality traits can vary widely.

Some will display the better traits of both breeds, while others may display the worst traits of both breeds.  There is NO predictability.  And yes, many of them DO shed quite a bit.  Hyperactivity and excessive barking is another trait I have encountered among folks who own this mix.

Whether or not any dog will make a good pet, or be good for someone living alone, depends entirely on YOU and how much time you can commit to training and working with the dog.  All of that is based on training, socializing and taking the time to raise the dog properly, not on it's breed.

Also keep in mind that no responsible breeder, breeds mixes.  Often times the people breeding these "Doodle" dogs will charge exorbitant prices and make all sorts of lofty claims about how "perfect" these dogs are.  Plenty of them are ending up in shelters....like any dog, they are not for everyone.  If you want to help dogs instead of supporting breeders who contribute to pet overpopulation, consider adopting a Golden/Poodle mix from a shelter or rescue.  Good luck :)

  8. 1. NEVER BUY A PUPPY just LOOKS, colour along, fur type-COLOUR, fur type and looks HAS NO INDICATION OF DOGS TEMPERMENT!

    2. Consider your lifestyle-

    4. Are you out more then 8hours a day

    5. Consider your energy requirements, Size, Grooming.

    6. Don't just buy because someone says this is the dog for you, people particular on yahoo answer will give you there particular favourite breed& what suits them, not what actually suit you.

    7. Read all you can-THERE are alot of false information on the web and in books about different dog breed.

8 DON'T TRUST THOSE DOG BREED SELECTORS-MOST OF THE RESULTS ARE INCORRECT. Ex i search large breed dogs, and the Pomeranian came up, which of cause is a toy dog breed!!

    9. NEVER BUY FROM A PETSTORE, BACKYARD BREEDER, PUPPY MILL OR NEWSPAPER, DON'T BUY FROM NEXT DAY PETS OR DOG BREED INFO, RESCUE AN ADULT DOG OR SHELTER PUPPY!

A golden retriver is a heavy shedding breed

and a Poodle is a low shedding breed

    A golden retriver x Poodle=Goldendoodle

Crossing both breeds won't produce a low shedding breed.

Remember all dogs shed, but this mix will likely produce a shedding dog that require 3-4monthly coat clipping &daily grooming!

Like the other's have said, these dog's are breed in puppy mills & backyard breeders, and they have been given not test on temperment or genetic fault before breeding the parents-LOOKS are NUMBER 1 with these MIXES.

At least if you adopt from a shelter-You'll know the temperment sound, as it has to go through a behavioural assessment before being allowed to go up for adoption!

Most likely these dogs will have the high energy level of the poodle! not the slightly more subjude Golden Retriver!

  9. Golden doodle, like many dogs that at one time was not acceptable, is quickly becoming popular. The fact that people with allergies may  be able to now own a dog, is exciting for many adults and children. When the golden doodle started to become popular in my area, I did some research on the new breed.  To produce the nearly non existing shedding that the breed is being bred for, the dog must be at least 3rd generation. Since female labs are usually less hyper than the males, the dam should be a lab. Since the structure (frame) of a poodle is usually smaller than a male lab, the sire should be a poodle. It is always good breeding practice for the male to be smaller than the female. It leads to less problems during the pregnancy and the delivery. Maybe not with the first litter produced, but by the third generation, you will be more apt to  get the results you are expecting. Ask to see copies of the pedigree of the parenting dogs in order to ensure good breeding strategies have been followed. It will be hard to know what generation a adopted golden doodle is. In fact, you can almost bet a adopted golden doodle will be first or second generation. Third generation would be too valuable to a breeder to let it go unless it was passed breeding age.Hope this helps.

Note: The creation of this breed was actually done with the best intentions. That being the fact that so many children with allergies could not have a pet. The allergies are bad enough, but for a child not to be able to have a pet, is pretty tough also. Since the intent was honorable, I reserve my judgement on the experimentation.

  10. <---------------This is a purebred "golden retriever", AKC registered, both parents AKC Champion and International champion lines, hips/heart/ eyes...certified....and upholds the quality of the purebred golden retriever.  It makes me sick to think that they take a poodle and a golden retriever (my joy and love in life), and mix them to become a "Designer" dog.  How very sad.  You can be looking at silly breeding, unresponsible breeding, and genetic problems.
