I was thinking about getting a tattoo, but I don't know what to get. I was thinking I wanted it on my low back. I want it to mean something, maybe Aztec, or something that has to do with my heritage (I'm of Mexican descent, definitely s**y. Any body have any suggestions. I want something that is not that common. I'm up for any ideas.

  1. A good inker can design something that'll fit your desires- if you have a basic idea sketch it out and take it to the artist to flesh it out- it'll cost a bit more than stock flash designs but it will fit you better- and good ink is an investment in your self image so why scrimp?

  2. There are a ton of great resources online...you can get some amazing ideas from various sites and then just print it out and take it to your artist...here are a few sites that have some pretty amazing designs:

  3. an aztec tattoo would be cool, try looking up old cave drawings for ideas. also, please please please don't get one on your lower back. so many people have i there and if you want an original tatttoo get it somewhere else on like your side back

  4. Heco en Mexico in side a ribbon you choose where, personally the tramp stamp thing is overdone in my opinion

  5. I think you need to think long and hard about this, I don't think random strangers on Y!A can tell you what to get because that's they beauty of tattoos - they represent something that is close to our hearts only whether it be our heritage, children, love of music etc.

Try thinking of what you love about your heritage, any words, phrases or symbols that come to mind?

If you're a bit stuck for ideas research some tattoo artists and find one who you feel will be able to incorporate your ideas into your perfect tattoo.

What about Mexican flowers? I don't know much about your heritage but heres a couple of ideas

  6. Why does it have to "mean something"? Get something you think is cool, not something that "represents" you. You represent you. Don't feel pressured to get something boring and normal unless you want to.

  7. ooh, don't get it on your lower back. it's pretty commonly known as a 'tramp stamp'.

i agree, side back would be cool, maybe wrist, maybe upper back, or something.

  8. Get something that isn't a fad.  Like say you get something like your school mascot... well in a few years that's not going to matter to you.  Get something that's not going to be something you may grow out of or change your mind/likes about.

On where to have it, think about it.  If you want to to ware a dress low on the shoulders for like your wedding do you want it to be visible.  If not don't get it on the shoulder.  Think about future careers you may want and will it be something you want visible then.

I got one when I was 20.  I went through 3 designs, and ended up getting a nice one of my birth sign.  I have also created a dising to incorporate my kids' birth sign into later on.

This is something to think through and really find exactly what you want.  Don't settle on design, location, or artist.  If you are uncomfortable in the place your are getting it done don't get it there.

I don't regret where or what I got.
