Question:

I was thinking about "the smurfs" today?

And it hit me, the Smurfs are obvious communists, and the entire cartoon show was meant as thinly veiled communist propaganda directed at children. Each one with an assigned duty and task to perform, for the state, and for the benefit of all. Their only identity is their job. No private ownership. Identical houses and clothing. They share all the food and everything else. And the only one who looks different? *Papa Smurf* their leader. With his Karl Marxish beard and his RED outfit. Gargamel... wants to turn the Smurfs into gold... represents the "evil capitalist". It's all there.

Do you think I'm correct about them? Even though they have been off the air quite awile now...would you still let your children watch this after hearing me?

I don't know much about politics...but even if I supported communism I would not want my daughter brainwashed by a cartoon show..I am suspicious of cartoons now!

  1. LOL, You know my husband and I caught on to this too.  I say there are some subliminal messages in the cartoon, but I don't think a child would likely pick up on them.  Take Looney Tunes for example.  Every last cartoon produced by Looney Tunes had some kind of light hearted political humor/message in it.  But I never picked up on that as a child, only as I entered my late teens/early adult hood did I pick up on it.  I'd still let my children watch the Smurfs simply because I enjoyed it as a child.  But you have an excellent point there!

  3. Actually, if you think about it Smurfette held all the power.  Like the bachelorette.

  4. sure that makes sense, but like you were brainwashed by cartoons?

  5. wow its just a cartoon show its not that serious

  6. ...hasn't that been proven somewhere?  Check google, i'm pretty sure someone has proven that the Smurfs were communist.

  7. not an answer but my sister's b-day is augest fourth!

  8. lol, that really made me laugh! Good observation, I'd have to agree. I don't like the smurfs, we're actually going to cancel our cable/internet in the next few weeks for reasons similar. Nothing but c**p on tv, and the internet is nice, but we got it for the purpose of keeping contact with family...which we still keep in touch more by phone. So my kids won't be watching anything but Babar, and other pbs things. We've got like 2000+ movies (didn't ever have cable until about 4 months ago, we just bought movies we enjoyed), so they will have more than enough things to watch.

I see it in a lot of other shows/cartoons as well. They deffinately are getting worse and worse(at least to my husband and I anyhow). I fully agree with you on it. My husband will get a kick out of this one when he gets off work lol. Nice question.
