  1. business lisence is to collect taxes,

your schooling should have atleast touched on some of these points, and you may want to enroll in your community college to take a business administration course to learn the ins and outs of the local requirements of businesses.

  2. yeah.

you need a license for any business.

for such a small company it shouldn't cost too much.

but-you could get into tons of federal trouble without one.

    the policy varies by state.

  3. Freelancing and starting a business are two different things. Either way, start with your state's department of business and commerce to be properly informed of your options.

  4. you will need to register your business to make it legitimate but you do not need any special licensing to work as a graphic designer (it's not like you're a doctor!)

You can become a graphic design broker and still get reseller prices but you might need something... i know reduced printing does that (www.reducedprinting.com)

  5. It depends on where you live, and the local tax, business and zoning laws.

If you live in an incorporated section of a city, you will PROBABLY need a business license.  How much that costs depends on the city.  If you live in an unincorporated part of the city, then your county or state may or may not have requrirements.

In some states, your business may subject you to sales taxes and, some state income taxes.  In any case, any income you make will be subject to FEDERAL income taxes.  How you declare and file for this depends on how large your business or how much you make.

But the details will still depend on where you intend to do business.  Check with your local planning commission, licensing bureau or local equivilent.
