I am nearsighted and the surgery would help with that, but I was told I would no longer be able to see close up which I am able to do quite well now. My vision is 20/30 I am on the fence about having this surgery. Anyone had this sugery? and was it worth it. Did it help. What are the pros and cons. I have researched this on the web and it sounds scary. Thank you for any info you can give me.

  1. If you like being able to read without glasses, you can ask the doctor to leave you a little bit near-sighted when he corrects your cataracts.  You may then need to wear glasses to see clearly in the distance on those occassions when you need it.

Additionally, there are multi-focal cataract implants out there.  If your doctor is not working with them, call around and find someone in  your area who is.  Also, ask about success rates.  They are not 100% perfect.

  2. When I had cataract surgery, I had the Restor lens put in.    That was a couple of years ago.   I no longer had to wear glasses, but lately, I am feeling that I need to wear glasses for closeup work.    The doctor told me to get some of those glasses at Walmart or a drugstore.   There is nothing scary about the surgery.   It is kind of a weird feeling, though, because you are awake during the procedure and it is like you are looking through water.    They deaden your eyes so you don't realize that your eyelids are propped open.   It is also fascinating.
