  1. A zero EFC means you will be eligible for a full Pell grant and possibly other forms of need-based aid.  It does not mean that you will not pay anything.  That is important to recognize.  You need to know how much it costs to attend the school you are going to.  How much the school costs, less any grants you will receive (like Pell) will help you figure out roughly what you will pay out of pocket (or through loans) for school.

Talk to your school's financial aid office.  They will help you with this question and specifically show you how much you may be required to pay.

  2. You will have to pay *something*, you always have to pay something.

    Loans, mostly.

  3. No that's not what that means.  It means you and your family are poor, but not that you will have to pay nothing.  If you enroll at an inexpensive community college, then you prob won't have to pay a dime.  If you enroll at an expensive for-profit school, an out of state school you definitely will have to pay.  If you choose to attend and live in the dorms in a 4 year university you might or might not have to pay depending on how early in the year you did your fafsa and what grant aid you are getting besides the 4700 per year in Pell grant if you attend full time.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Mostly likely you are going to end up with alot of student loans.

  5. Yes, and no. That your EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) is 0, means that your family will not have to give out any money at this moment to pay for your education. So right now, you don't have to pay anything, hence yes.

However, you will have to do work-study, where you are required to get a job and work off some of your tuition. The percentage depends on the college. Also, some of it may be given to you in loans, that you may have to pay back a few months - a few years after you have graduated.

Don't be alarmed however, the college will give you ample time to pay it back and will not force it on you if you are not in a stable job. As for workstudy, its basically a job while you're in school, and most people get jobs anyways.

    Hope that helps :)
