I was told my car needed an idle sensor? Is there another name for it because I can't find it!?!

  1. There's no one SENSOR for idle.

    but I think the speaker was talking about Idle Air Controller (IAC).  It is at the throttle body and it make the idle speed constant.

  2. tell us what kind of car and engine size,  maybe you mean the    "air idle control valve"    

  3. perhaps they mean the TPS throttle position solenoid

  4. they call it a IAC sensor. (idle air control sensor). the parts store will know what your talking about.

  5. Some throttle position sensors are really two in one sensors since they often have an idle position sensing switch built into the "TPS" sensor. I have had one malfunction and it caused the engine to repeatedly surge and rev by itself when it should have been idling, as if it was hunting for the proper idle speed. Do you have any symptoms that you can describe?
