I know it's done to check to see if the person is the real cardholder, but I was wondering if companies/cashiers that do not check are breaking the law.

  1. Unless your card has your picture on it (like Bank of America cards).  ALL credit card purchases are supposed to be backed up with an ID check unless it is a debit purchase using your secret PIN number.  That PIN becomes you rID

  2. yeah...

they want to know if its your card, so they check your id..

  3. Even if it is not the law there, the stores should check ID to protect their customers.  Otherwise, just anybody could use their credit card.
