I'm in school to become a teacher. I've already completed my CBEST however. People told me I can sub, but someone told me I have to pay for something first. Can someone give me an example of steps to follow so that I can do those temporary subbing jobs for 1-2 days. Or at least, direct me to where I can find more info about it.

  1. Good luck. Most people who start subbing to get "field experience" or simply to start earning money, find out that: they are unprepared, it was not what they expected and ended up questioning why they wanted to go into teaching in the first place.

Hang in there, it won't be easy, but we definitely need more good teachers out there that will be there to continue the teacher's instructional program when he/she is absent.

  2. You'll have to pay a fee for your 30-day credential and finger prints for your background check.  The 30 day credential allows you to teach in the same classroom for up to 30 days.  After that, the district has to reassign you.   Contact the district you'd like to sub in and they can help you.  If you're in California, you can google the california commission on teacher credentialing.  They'll have more info there.
