I was told to stay away from compaq computers.?

Has anyone heard bad things about compaq? I know HP makes them now. However I am not happy with the dell that I have.

I have an HP now and I like it but I have had problems with the Compaqs I have owned.

Ive played on a Compaq more then once and I haven't had no problems with them before.

The computer that I have is a hp pavilion that is about 7 years old. Its been a pretty good computer so far. The only thing that went out on it was the power supply and the fan went out too.  Got it at Wal-Mart. But every person has different feelings about what brand they got. Good luck at finding a good computer just for you.

compaq has been braned as the lower end brand from HP, HP being the higher end brand.  Almost all pre-built store bought computers are honestly going to use most of the same mass produced generic parts. HP/Compaq are quite decent, I sell them every day, along with Dell, and Acer. We have had more issues from e-machine than compaq, but still nothing unusuall. (generaly its user error or they just ended up needing their money back for somthing else.)

research the different motherboards, ram, hard drives, video cards, sound cards, monitors, etc etc. For your self and build your own system. you'd be amazed as how nice of a system you can build your self for an extra hundred or two over a boxed system that will have limited upgrade options and many times sub-part performance for what is being advertised.

Personally I prefer Compaq and do not know why you have been told bad things about Compaq. From my experience about 50% of the people I know have Dells do not like them.

My sister have a compaq computer and every time you look she is putting it in the shop.I bought a gateway in 1999 and it just went out on me last week.  Now I have a HP laptop for a year and I love it.

OEMs in general are bad.

Compaq DeskPros (what you see in some offices) are generally good, however.

Your first mistake was buying a Dell. Compaq and Hp are midrange but the industry leaders in quality are Acer and Acer.

My motherboard came loose and that means, while the computer was viable I couldnt turn it one.  No power
