Ok I bought a new Toshiba Laptop a year ago- it had 1gb ram and I bought 2gb of ram so that it would run smoother and changed the ram myself.
I have an old Toshiba A105, and I did about 40 minutes of research, I was nearly 100% positive that the RAM from my new laptop (the two 512mb RAM sticks) would work fine, my old Toshiba A105 has two memory slots, and can take up too 4gb of RAM, so I'm like oh yeah it'll be able to accept it fine.
The chip matches EVERYTHING that would make it compatible with the A105 so I thought what the heck, I want 1GB of RAM verse 512mb in the pokey thing. So I popped hte thing appart and took out the 512mb and put the two 1gb ones in.
I then popped the plate back on and flipped the laptop, turned it on, then the lights appeared- but the screen was / is dead, and I don't hear like any sound from the machine. So I thought, hmm thats weird, maybe the RAM ISN'T compatible then.
I put my old RAM back in, same thing, no screen no computer, nothing.
Whats wrong? Does putting incompatible RAM brick a computer or is this something totaly other than the RAM, and it was coincidental?
Thanks.
