I think they were jellyfish, but I'm not positive. They were washed up on the beach in two different locations. They were fairly small, about the size of your palm, and when I prodded them, they sort of fell apart. There seemed to be tentacles (or something) on the bottom. Just wondering if any of you knew what they were, I had never seen anything like it before!

  1. Man o' war. Very bad. Worse than jellyfish. Don't pick them up, and it's best not to swim if they're washed up on the beach... tentacles can be over 50 feet long and will sting the h*ll out of you. Don't touch them, don't step on them, don't swim with them... if you've got an allergic reaction, you can go into anaphalactic shock and die like people do with bee stings...

Hmm, never seen any of these others before, but it seems there's some other blue jellyfish out there as well... this website (the one I got the man o' war photo from) has some beautiful pics of various jellies... scroll down to the blue button jellyfish and the By the Wind Sailor jellyfish and check those images... maybe one of them is what you saw...

  2. Sounds like jellyfish to me

dont touch them, they have stinging cells and many species can hurt you

  3. Sounds like a Portuguese Man-o War. Similar to a jellyfish, the tentacles have a strong venom and can burn like crazy. Don't touch them. Go to Google Images and put that name in and see.

  4. im not sure. one time at the beat i came across glowing things and they were plankton. it was awsomee. they were in the waves. at night causing the whole wave to glow as it crashed haha.
