On the back of all players socks there is a patch that is a different colour from the rest of the sock! I was just wondering what this is supposed to be? Is it something to do with the calf muscle or what? wierd question i know but was just wondering!!!!!!!!!

Thank you

  1. i noticed it. maybe its extra padding on the gastrocnemius

  2. it was made for the rugby world cup. it is just a design to add more of the teams second colour. south africa green and gold, england white and red. only the teams playing in the rugby world cup have them as they are sponsered.

  3. dont know

  4. I believe it's nothing more complicated than design

  5. I have noticed this with a number of teams. I think you are correct in that it appears to be an extra elsticated area to support the calf muscle.

  6. gosh, i have never noticed

i will keep a look out for socks

  7. I have only noticed England having this design feature. The All Blacks and Italy have the traditional small strips at the top of the socks. I will take more notice this weekend.

  8. The sock is designed in some kits as an extra support for the muscles around the calf and ankles due to the amount of sprains strains and injuries that often occur in those areas.

i wish they had something like that in my day playing the sport as I now suffer from Tendernitis constantly from the horrid injuries suffered from the days in the ruck maul and scrum.

  9. I have noticed this on the canterbury designed kits.. Think they feel that the more jersey colour on the kit the more the team of the player will be recognised in mauls and rucks...

Sometimes a lot of teams have the same colour socks and this can cause confusion.

Wales don't have it because they use reebok.
