I was wondering, do i need some type of tourist visa to go to australia?

im from the US but not a citizen, im a legal residence though

or whats the process? if there is, how long will it take to get my tourist visa?

you do need a visa to visit Australia - the visa is good for a couple of months. If you are just going for a vacation - you can get them on line or through a travel agent. They are electronic and very quick to get.

They look at your citizenship. US residency don't count.

The only people who don't need a visa to enter Australia are Australian citizens or PRs or New Zealand citizens. Everyone else, regardless of their origin must have a visa for even the shortest stay. Do not listen to anyone who says otherwise. People without visas are refused entry and it's not possible to get one after arrival.

Depending on your passport country, you may be able to get an online ETA tourist visa which will be issued virtually immediately. Even if you're not eligible for an ETA, it only takes a day or so at the most. All of the information you need is on the following site and you can apply from there too:

A UK, US or NZ citizen doesn't need a visa for a tourist based stay of up to 90days.

Being that you're not a citizen but only a resident unless you're from the UK or NZ then you will need a tourist visa. See http://www.immi.gov.au for more info.

If your not a citizen you best find out you can get back to the us ok. Depends where you are from . Citizens from many countries can come here on an eta visa automatic tourist visa for up to three months . Google Australia visa
