  1. Depression is hereditary and you have every right to be a little worried.  A doctor would certainly take into account the family history of depression when looking to diagnose you.  There are many options for depression now and awareness has increased drastically over the past decade.  If your mom doesn't want to take you to the doctor specifically for depression, mention to your doctor the next time you go in for a check-up/physical that you've been feeling some symptoms of depression.  He'll probably ask you some questions and will determine whether or not you're truly depressed and how to help you out.
