  1. Oh h**l, just sneak out on to the flightline and "liberate" some A10 skin. They'll discover it the next day and snicker about it and patch 'er back up, no big deal. Happens all the time, h**l some punk kids did the same thing to my Buick last night.

  2. the skin of an a-10 is 7075 aluminum - ordinary enough and it can be bought at some metal supply stores. there are many different alloys used in a-10's

  3. Of course you can go to a local plane graveyard or you can look one up on your computer to find a military scrap yard for planes some of those planes might have the same outer-skin as the A-10 but removing it or purchasing it may not be that easy...if I where you I would just go out and get a nice tool box it sounds more sensible!

  4. I don't think they're scraping A-10s just yet...They are still very much in service.

  5. A10s are currently being held at DM for parts.  When it comes time to recycle them, the whole fuselage and wing assemblies are reduced down.  There's no "peeling" of aluminum from them.  In fact, this is often sold to commercial companies so it's very likely your new tool box might consist of aircraft aluminum.

  6. I'd run out to sears and buy one. Home in front of the tv with my feet up in under an hour.

  7. The outside skin of aircraft, USAF anyway, it usually only .032" inches thick, if that. Since it's aluminum alloy, it won't hold up very well. The strength in the skin comes from the ribs and other structural components. Any place something is externally mounted, such as an antenna, a doubler is added to to the skin for extra strength.
