  2. Avg for Indian head pennies is less than $1

I have rolls of them i use in craft work

Up for auction is this Key Date 1870 Indian Head Cent.   This is a very nice looking coin with a full clear date and is problem free.  This coin is in a raw uncertified condition.  Please look at the pictures and grade the coin yourself.  The coin pictured is the coin the winner bidder will receive.

Low Starting price and no reserve.

    price ck $2.35

  3. If the penny is in mint condition, then you're looking at the $50-100 range. If it's been circulated then less. You might want to check out eBay for actual market prices.

  4. Indian Head pennies between 1864 and 1878 are valuable.

There were only 5,275,000 minted in 1870.

If your 1870 penny is in G-4 Good condition, meaning the word Liberty (on the Indians headband ) is worn away, the coin is still worth $40.00

If it is in VG-8 Very Good condition, meaning at least three of the letters in Liberty are visible, it is worth $55.00.

If it is in F-12 Fine condition, meaning the word Liberty is completely visible it is worth $150.00.

If it is EF- 40 Extremely Fine condition, meaning the word Liberty is sharp and all other features are sharp, it is worth $275.00.

If it's an Uncirculated coin, never used in public, no trace of wear, $400.00.

They might have " The Official Red Book " at your local library and you could look yourself or you could go to a book store, find the Red Book and look up 1870  Indian Head penny without buying the book.

  5. One cent.

  6. sorry michelle, it's worth a bit more than that.  Values of coins depend heavily upon the condition of a coin, from your description it sounds like yours isn't in very good condition, but that's okay.  One way to start judging condition is if you can read, and if so to what degree, the word "liberty" on the indian's headdress. That coin is called an "Indian Head" penny (obviously due to the um, indian head.) they were produced from 1859-1909.  In the 2007 blue book, an 1870 could be worth from $28 or so("liberty"not visible), maybe less if it is in really bad condition, to up to $500 (but, sorry, don't get your hopes up, it must be nearly perfect for that to happen.  if the word liberty is partially readable then about $35, if it is mostly readable, around $85(!) if the word liberty is worn but totally visible, then (!!!)$135 from there the coin has to be basically perfect with very little wear or scratches.
