I was wondering if a motherboard has a maximum speed that is supported for RAM?

I was looking at buying a different set of ddr2 1066 ram but I noticed the timing was different from the ddr2 800 ram I have now. I know you can change your timings in the BIOS but I didn't know if motherboards have a certain limit to how fast it can support. Thanks

  1. well PC mother board these days have problems with RAM memory you need to find the proper RAMs for the mother board. i just rebuild an old PC and well is running smooth i wanted to upgrade the memory from 64MB to 1GB but it can't it wont support it. it will runs slow (asked an IT pro) and then all i need a is a RAM of 256MBx2 so i mean well lets say thats messed up?! but thats how some PC runs.

  2. when it comes to ram, dont go over the specified max ram speed and dont go over the rated voltage that the motherboard will support. for example, ddr2 800 at 1.8v will run in any motherboard that supports it but stick an unsupported 1066 @ a higher voltage and there are most likely gonna be some problems.
