  2. Legal or not, this is never a wise decision.  Persons riding in the bed of a pickup are subject to all kinds of potential harm.  Anything from road projectiles to ejections to rollovers.

As a Southern california resident with number of traffic mishaps we encounter here, I don't even allow my dog to ride in the back of the pickup.

I'm curious about the mindset of those who would consider legislation against passengers in pickup beds as unnecessary.  Even in the most rural unpopulated areas, accidents still happen.  Pickups are built and designed for work; passenger transportation is somewhat a secondary event (unless you have an extended cab).  The bed is not intended for human occupancy.

Anytime you purchase a product and use that product in a way that the maker did not intend, you are guilty of misuse (potentially abuse) of that product.  If you have employees riding in the bed of a pickup and they suffer harm as the result of an accident, a big fat easy lawsuit is coming your way.

I hope that the law eventually passes in Illinois.  Sometimes, people need a little extra help protecting themselves from themselves.

  3. No it is not.
