I was wondering if the nissan skyline 1999 GT-R illegal in USA

I have wanted this car for almost 10 years and i can finally buy it and tune it up as best as i can if not i will be getting the toyota supra. Please who knows if this car is legal because I'm getting it imported from Japan and people said it might be illegal.

sal is wrong, its not the only DOT tested, the r32 are also legal, dont get an r34 though, they look nice, but the body is a lil heavier, and the r33 is the wayyy better one, its the r34 with a bit of a different body style, and its half the price of an r34, go for the r33, just go on ebay and type in nissan skyline, just on the home page, dont go to the automotives, you will see r33's and r32's and an occassional r34

MIGHT!?! Well, YUP! They ARE illegal in the US! Unless your gonna track it or show it... it will be a bit hard to make it street legal... its possible... but its a hassle!

Yes it is illegal. the only legal skyline that you can import is the R33. Why? it was the only skyline to be tested for DOT requirements, safety standards, etc. by Motorex, the only company that knew how to legalize skylines. (and the only one that still knows, but they're shutdown) Just trying to import the car will be a headache, especially once it reaches U.S. soil. IF doesn't get confiscated, you gotta worry about emissions, paperwork( and no you can't legalize it yourself), etc. and making sure to drive it w/o it being seized and exported. You mean the R34, right? Get the newest year possible. They are updated year by year at the factory.

Ring your local DMV and ask them. I think they're legal, just import one that is totally stock, and in the best possible condition with the lowest mileage you can afford.

it depends on your state laws, the best way is to find one the has already been imported and lisenced here.  Another way is to find a reputable importer that can help with lisenceing, and emissions depending on where u live.

Each state differs on this but the general rule of the US gov is the Spec 2 R33 models are able to be imported due to the crash test results from Motorex which was shoved in there face so they had to allow them,other models bought in before this law change are classed as being legal,but them and the R33 Spec 2 models have to meet US regs and any extra regs which are required in the state the car is going to be used in.

Also some states do not allow the Skyline at all,so something which you need to find out about where you live as general information may not help you.

There are R34 versions in the US and R33 GTR versions out there which are just as good as an R34 also the single turbo R33 GTS-T and the single turbo R34 GTT are great versions with very tunable engines and half the price.
