and Houston,Tx 2 hours away from both placees and I would like to save some horses and I know the risk involed

If you want to save some that are going to slaughter go to your local horse auction.  Usually the first ones to go through are the ones that are going to the killers.  They go by the pound and they go cheap.  I have seen lot's of nice but untrained horses going to slaughter.  It is heartbreaking but you cannot but them all.  If you can help one that is a start.

horses aren't allowed to be slaughtered for human consumption in the U. S.  but  some are still slaughtered for other purposes.  Any horse that is untrained and sells cheap goes for slaughter whether it is in the U.S. or Canada.

Horse Slaughter is against the Law in the United State. People still buy horses and ship them to canada or mexico for slaughter

I live in Texas as well. Here is a hint. Find your local sales barn, damned near every county has a sales barn. Just check around and see what day they sell horses. Like in Roundmountian the first weekend of every month is a horse sale.

Just go out in the country and find out when they are selling at the sales barn. Luck

Edit- I guess Dolph and I where the only ones who read your question. The question is not whether or not slaughter is legal, but where to rescue slaughter horses. Don't troll  me, for calling you on not answering the question.
