I was wondering if there is a protocol to tip the hairdresser during a trial up-do session?

  1. Since you are taking up her/his time I think you should if you're satisfied with the results.


  2. I always tip at least 20%.  There's a rule about not tipping owner of the salon, but a lot of people still do, especially in suburban establishments.

  4. You don't have to tip them.  Its a trial updo, you are already paying a lot of money for that as well as the real thing.  Wait until AFTER your real updo (I'm assuming this is for a wedding?) and after the ceremony/reception if you want to give a tip and a thank you.

  5. The hairdresser, even though it is a trial session is giving of his/her time and the Big Book of Etiquette says that tips for styling is 10% to 20% depending on the complexity of the style

    In etiquette...when in regards to tipping always put yourself in the place of the person who is giving the service
