  1. I buy a lot of DVDs from HMV Japan.

Their prices are also listed in yen, but here is a good site to give you the most up-to-date and accurate conversion rate: www.xe.com

The first thing to do is to check if your Japanese website has a link to an English version. Many nowadays have links to a version in 2 or 3 different languages.

In my case, I pay for my Japanese DVDs by credit card. The store then uses EMS to send parcels to my country. I can pick up my order at the Purolator office which is closest to me.

  2. Depends on the website. If the store ships overseas, you should be able to buy right from the site. You'll need a credit card or a Paypal account or something similar, but with a credit card at least the currency conversion should be done for you. I'm not so sure about Paypal though. In my experience, places with English-language websites (either as their main site or as a link from their Japanese site) are more likely to ship overseas, but be careful. I'm not sure if that holds true for all shops. Other places do not accept international orders at all, though, so you would have to use a shopping service like Celga (http://www.celga.com/beta/), Rinkya (http://www.rinkya.com/), or Crescent Shop (http://www.crescent-shop.com/) if you really wanted to order from them. On the one hand it'll cost you more if you use that kind of service, but on the other hand it allows you to shop at Japanese stores or bid on Japanese auctions that you might not be able to access otherwise.

  3. You can buy it with a regular credit card, when you buy it the credit card company changes your money into yen.

Best thing to do though is visit this site which sells all kinds of Japanese things and it's in English: http://www.jlist.com/
