  1. depends upon what you call your own Am channel.....

Anyone can buy equipment called Part 15 am transmitters such as the talking house broadcasters that only go a few hundred yards and basically allows you to transmit what you want.

But own a FCC licensed radio station? Yep with the right kind of money.

IF you are looking for a signal in a big city, you are looking at sale prices approaching $5-20 Million depending upon signal strength/ tower location/ number of towers/ transmitter power/ money makign potential of the format currently on the station.

But I've found a few smaller stations in my home state that sell for $100k for the whole thing

Basically you buy the station, inform the FCC and wait for them to ok the sell to you which is a few months wait.

You could build a station, but takes permission from the FCC to build the station.. usual turnaround on a radio station is 3-6 months for sale to ownership, the ask the fcc to build and actually build it out approaches more like 5-7 years on average.... I know of some stations right now that proposed to the fcc in 2000 only getting a construction permit NOW!!!

But for an idea about radio station ownership costs to buy, here is a website devoted to the sale of them
