I was wondering is it is possible to download games for the wii and play them, if so how?

yes you can absolutely download any game you want for the wii. you need to have a mod chip first though which is simple and than you can download any game or movie you want to your pc burn it to a dvd and play it like any other game or movie

If your wii is connected to the internet, than this should be a piece of cake.

The Wii shop Channel comes with your wii. Open that, and you will find a wide selection of games made just for the Wii, downloadable only via Wii Shop Channel, and plenty of old school game from the Virtual Console. If you have Wii Points (you can buy them right from your Wii with a credit card) or you can buy an actual card at stores like gamestop. Then you can just select a game on the Wii Shop channel, and if you have enough points ($1= 100 points), You can download it right to you Wii.

if you click on wii shop channel on your main wii menu screen, you can gain access to a ton of games which you can download and play, you just have to load your wii account or pay using a credit card right on your wii screen.

It sure is!

If your Wii is connected to the internet via WiFi or Ethernet, then you can download games for your Wii!

Just click on the Shop Channel, and you'll see everything there.

Note that it does requre a form of currency called Wii Points, as there are no games available to download for free.

But the games available to you are not only classic games (From the Original Nintendo and such) but also brand new and original games on the WiiWare servce!
