When you get pulled out of the cold 'briney' you don't care where you stay, as long as your warm and safe.

Where ever they could.  Most of the passengers did their best to make the survivors comfortable, which included offering their own cabins.  They went directly to New York, so it wasn't an inconvienience for long.

On the deck, double up rooms, dining hall, etc. They had plenty of room.
