  1. It could be that you are over fertilizing it.  It could also be you have extremely poor soil.  Suggestion take or send a sample to your nearest university extension and have the soil tested.

Below is how I access mine on the web

enter in "Search Bar :University of Missouri extension soil testing"

    Example:

Soil test kits can be obtained from any County Extension Office or by e-mailing the Soil and Plant Testing Laboratory or calling 573-882-0623. You can submit samples to the lab through your local County Extension Office or by mailing direct to the lab. Information on how to take and submit samples, testing fees and sample information forms can be obtained by visiting the MU Soil and Plant Diagnostic Services Web site.

  2. Stop watering the grass every day - move the water schedule out to every second or third day depending on the temperature and water deeply this encourages drought and heat tolerance and gives a healthy plant.

If your grass has become shallow rooted because of the watering and then you fetilize you may be just burning it off.

Stop fertilizing, there is now plenty in the soil, and water well.

When you mow your lawn lift the height of the blades.  many people make the mistake of thinking if they mow low the lawn will grow slower and need less mowing, in fact the opposite is true.

If you are in a hot climate the longer blade on the grass also provides some shade during the day for the roots.

I live in a hot area and higher mowering and regular deep watering can make the difference between a lush green lawn that looks like it has been fertilized, and a lawn with yellow dying  leaves and dead patches.

I had a client that just lifted the mowing height of the mower and ended up with such a lush lawn his friends thought hhe had discovered a secret formula.  Give it a go, it will take a few weeks for the height to look even.

  3. Some grasses don't like the heat.  I have St Augustine and burmuda mixed.  I water thrice a week.  M-W-F.  I water for 20 minutes each zone (3 all together) and have the sprinklers come on again for 20 minutes.

Tide works well on grubs (the powdered stuff) and fungicide works well for mites and other bugs.

Good luck.  I did my yard in Tide, yard food then fungicide.  I hope it grows.

  4. Try different types of grass seed to see which ones work and stop fertilising the lawn! Once a year is enough.

  5. Maybe you have bad soil.  If you can, scrape off the topsoil and replace it.  If this is too costly, till your soil and mix in some fine sand, compost and add in some new soil.  Level off and then plant new grass.  you may also try aerating twice a year.  with a pitch fork, stick the prongs into the grass and push and pull the handle then pull out the fork.  This will loosen up the root system to induce root growth.

  6. what ever you do dont start a veg garden

    good luck
