Question:

I wear RGP contact lenses. I used the solution for soft contacts on them. Is it ok to use? It feels better?

It is actually thinner than the solution for the hard contacts and I find this to feel better when inserting the contacts. My niece tells me it can stain my contacts. I don't understand what harm that would be since my eyes are brown and they don't show up anyway. I told her I would call the number on the box to see if

I could use it and she said if I called they would tell me, no. Does anyone know if there is any harm in using soft contact solution on hard contacts?

I can get the soft solution for free from my eye doctor, but they never have the gas permeable solution.

  1. The harm in using soft lens solution on RGP's is that your lenses won't get cleaned. It will hardly have any good effect on your lenses at all.

The soft lens solutions are much too mild to do the job required.

Your RGP's will be all blurry within a few days.

They have their own solutions for a very good reason !

You wanted gas perms...spend a few bucks once in awhile and buy the proper stuff.

Your eyes will thank you , and your lenses will last longer.

  2. Unfortunately, as was said, they just wont 'get the job done.'

That said, there's nothing to stop you from using saline (unisol 4, preferably) or a soft contact rewetting drop to 'rinse' off the solution you normally use before insertion.
