how are they "ruined"?  

I know that when I wear contacts and I cry, my eyes get very dry and when I remove the contacts, it appears that they are covered with an enormous amount of protein deposits....I end up losing a lot of contacts from crying, rubbing my eyes and trying to blink after a good cry where they end up so dry that they literally pop out...even worse now that I wear RGPs....I just remove the lenses and clean/soak them real good or do an enzymatic cleaning and they feel brand new again...

dramatic movies are a killer with contacts!!  so if you plan on crying, it's easier to just take them out before the waterworks begin... :)
