I wear colored contacts, Freshlooks, I love them but no matter what brand i use, my eyes are always red on the sides. I use eye drops to clear them and sometimes that works but why do i have to do that where as everyone else can wear them freely without this problem. Am I doing something wrong? What do you suggest?

  1. don't wear them as often

  2. Actually lots of people do have these issues. If you wear them from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed..that could be a problem. I do and my eyes are also red all the time, but I refuse to wear my glasses so I just deal with it. You might need to give your eyes more breaks from your contacts. And make sure when you are using the drops they are specifically for contacts. If you said you tried most every contact than thats all I can think of. Otherwise maybe see a doctor for more answers, but those are the answers I have alwyas gotten.

Oh yes and cleaning them good is a factor as well. Change you solution every day. And rinse the contact with solution, rubbing them gently. I recommend not sleeping in them either, even if they say you can try not to very often.

  3. Have you tried using a different brand of rinsing or soaking solution? Different kinds have different preservatives, and some people have an allergy to one and not the other.

It's also possible you don't produce as much tears as other people. Drinking more water can help, but some people just have dryer eyes. Don't use eye drops labelled for removing redness (like Visine) -- instead, look for drops that aim to moisten/lubricate the eyes and make contacts more comfortable.

Since you say it always happens, I'm guessing it's not a cleaning problem. But if your eyes are fine in the first few days of a new pair, you might be getting protein build-up. Tears naturally contain proteins, and they can accumulate on lenses and make them cloudy and very gritty-feeling. Emotional tears have even more proteins than every-day tears. Proteins can be removed with a special enzyme cleaner, but you might want to ask an eye doctor about it, because the enzymes are very strong. I used the wrong brand once and the next day my lenses fell apart when I handled them.

  4. When you wear contacts you're supposed to not wear them at least 2 days a week....If you cant do that try taking them out earlier. When you wear contacts the contacts dont allow as much air as your eye would get without contacts so the vein come more towards the surface to get more air (like plant roots) thats why you're eye looks red... Make sure that when you use eye drops you use them only when you need them because too much can irritate your eyes

  5. Youre probably not cleaning them right. That used to happen to me. Then i realised thet it was because i wasnt rinsing them correctly.
