I went on a babysitting interview yesterday, & found out that the kids have lice, he said that every time he gets rid of it, it seems to come back. He has kids running in & out of his apartment all day, which I think is the problem. I told him I probably wont be able to do it, b/c when I talked to my mother about it she was extremely unhappy about it, & I babysit other children, & wouldnt want to give it to any of them. I feel really bad, b/c I did want to take the job, I just dont want to take the risk of giving it to my familly, or anybody elses familly. How easy is it to get lice? What can you do to get rid of it? What should I say to the guy, I know that the duaghter was looking forward to me playing with her,& she only speaks a little English (she was born in Brazil, so she speaks portuguese, shes only lived here 6 months, she is 6 years old) I was going to be helping her with her English. Since her mother is still in Brazil, her dad thinks she needs a female influence in her life

  1. Lice itself really isnt that hard to get rid of.  The reason they can never seem to get rid of it is because the person that is bringing it in, which must not be in their family, one of the other kids, isnt taking care of the problem.  Since its not one of their own kids, the only thing they can do to get rid of the problem is to figure out which kid it is, contact their parents and make sure that family gets treated.

  2. Just use a lice shampoo with your regular shampoo a lice shampoo is just a shampoo formulated to get rid of lice and keep them away then avoid there head items any thing from brushes to hats

  3. if you dont feel confertable dont do it. lice isn't the easyest to get rid of. you can have your mom pick them out. shampoo and combs.

  4. got to remember lice are all over the house furniture and bedding plus on the kids its a pain in the butt to get rid of lice i would not take the job.even if you don't use any of there hats or brushes but lice can survive off the host for a few days and you can still get infected by it.

  5. shave your head and their head so u cant get lice or get spcial shampoo that removes the lice

  6. they sell over the counter shampoo for getting rid of lice.  However you can't stop there you have to wash all of the clothing clean or dirty in the house and you also have to wash the bedsheet of all the beds....  I would not take the job unless he is totally commited to getting rid of the lice first thing....  Treat your own hair just to be safe....  Also it does not hurt to shampoo the furniture and the carpets...

  7. I was going to ask how the parent was dealing with it. From your description, listen to your mom, don't get involved, you will end up bringing it home with you.

The only way to get ride of it is to quarantine all the child's possessions Isolate the infected child, treat with lice removing cleansers and manual exfoliation of the eggs from the scalp. It requires a lot of diligence and is not a responsibility you want right now.

  8. My daughter got lice at a slumber party when she was I guess like, 9 or around there. I had two older sons and had never had the lice thing.

It was a nightmare. You have to treat, retreat, clean bed clothes, blankets, vacuum the couch...basically EVERYTHING! and you have to buy the very expensive product that supposedly kills them. You also have to treat everyone in the household. Then there are the nits (the lice eggs) that you have to comb out, which stick like super glue to the hair and you have to put the Nix or w/e you use on at a certain time while they are developing (something with their central nervous system). Then you re-do the treatment in like a week or something. I couldn't get it to work. I ended up spending over $1,000...no kidding to get rid of them. Nightmare...don't do it.

With all those kids around, they will keep passing it back and forth.

If you don't want to tell him that you're not accepting the job because of the lice issue, tell him that family issues came up, or w/e and you're sorry because you wanted to work there; and that you hope he will keep you in mind if he needs someone in the future. (After the lice...but don't say that part!).

    Best Wishes

  9. i would just politely tell the gentleman that you cannot babysit the kids until the head lice is gone.  my little girl had it in kindergarten and it was a true pain to get rid of. we even had prescription shampoo from her doc and it didnt work. we took her outside and sat her on the porch and sectioned off her hair and took every strand one by one and checked it for nits and lice. the thing that worked the best for us was using mayo on the hair overnight and then washing it out with 1/2 vinegar and 1/2  alcohol the next morning. you also have to treat your house to carpets, bedding, clothes, PETS. the money that you would make in babysitting would be used on supplies to treat the kids and your house. i would truely tell him that you just cant take the chance....and if his kids has it, it will get back to your family to. good luck
