I went Beanie Baby bonkers in the mid 90's, are they worth anything yet?

I have hundreds of them safely tucked away patiently waiting for the old one's to become valuble. Some of them are even preserved in square plastic cases Do you know if they are or ever will be a valuable collectable? They sure take up a lot of space, should I hang on to them?

PS I still cry when I think about all of my Barbie's and Ken's I gave away in the late 60's.

  1. All of the current ones are worth less than a buck.

The best way to find out how much items are worth is to go see what people have actually paid for them.

ebay is a great tool for this. By looking at completed auctions, you will be able to determine what yours would sell for.

    1. Log in

    2. Do a search for the item.

    3. Click the 'Completed Items' checkbox (this is why you needed to log in)

    4. Click the 'Show Items' button.

Now you will see completed auctions. If the dollar amount is in red, then the item did not sell, and your item is worth less than the listed price. If green, then that shows the value that at least one person was willing to pay.

This method of determining value is SO much more accurate than any online price lists. Also, it lets you see the layout of the most successful (highest selling price) auctions, giving you hints on how you should construct your auction.

    Good Luck!

  2. They won't be worth anything.

Think of how many of each one were sold.  Think how many of them were saved in mint condition and unplayed with since they were bought by adults and collectors, say 75% (realistically even after attrition over 30 years it will be around 90%).

75% of the original Beanie Babies still available in Mint/NM condition.

    Minor (very minor) appreciation

  3. I worked at a store and was able to get ton's of beanies for really cheap.  I tried to sell them in a garage sale and no luck.  I finally packed them away in totes.  They are only worth something if you can find someone to buy them.  I thought of giving them out for Halloween, but figured my house would get egged when kids didn't get candy.
