Question:

I went for 20 wk scan, they said everything looks ok but they ***** get a measurement of the spine.?

the lady who done the scan then asked if id had test for downs. should i be worried. i didnt have the test. also the skin at the back of the neck looked ok but she did say if it gets any thicker then it could a sign of downs. am i just being paranoid. i have to have another scan monday

  1. Sometimes the position of the baby in scans makes it hard to see what is going on in there.  If you are concerned that your baby will be born with downs syndrome, then you should have the test.  Also, there are other genetic defects associated with nuchal thickening (the thick skin at the back of the neck).  

    You are not being paranoid, you are concerned (hopefully) for the welfare of your child.

I agree with pathologygeek.  You are not paranoid.  I had the blood tests that said that there was a chance my child had downs but, after an amnio I found that he did not.  The person who did your scan should have said nothing to you unless they are a Doctor.  She should have left it up to your doctor to tell you the findings.  I wouldn't worry though because things change as the baby grows.  I hope this helps.
